Overview
A documentary about the activity of self-help group “Seikatsu no Hakkenkai” which is based on the thought of Morita Therapy.
Morita therapy represents traditional Japanese psychotherapy for anxiety disorder, and it does not apply any kind of medication--instead it puts patients in homelike therapeutic atmosphere and gives guidance to patients as to their daily lives.
Unlike Western therapies, Morita therapy does not try to extract symptom from the patient but encourage patient to live with it.
Patients going through Morita therapy will be aware that the symptom is not really a problem they need to eliminate.
The film follows an activity of the group meeting “Shudankai”, the main activity of “Seikatsu no Hakkenkai”.
One day, a woman who suffers from anxiety disorder starts to participate “Shudankai”. She meets people who have similar mental problems, began to exchange knowledge, share the feelings and restore herself to health.
Chika Higa (psychiatrist) gives commentary on the healing process in the self-help group “Seikatsu no Hakkenkai”.
